Scheduled Castes survey extended only in Bengaluru till July 6

The H.N. Nagamohan Das Commission spearheading the Scheduled Castes survey across the State to provide internal reservation, has extended the exercise till July 6, only in Bengaluru, both in the city’s civic body limits and Bengaluru Urban district.

After multiple extensions, the survey concluded on June 30, with 91.84% of the projected population covered. However, there has been a big lag in coverage of the projected population in Bengaluru. Despite special drives to paste stickers on houses covered under the survey and providing an option to fill in the details online, the survey could cover only 52% of the projected population in Bengaluru. As of June 30, of the projected SC population of 13.62 lakh in the city, the survey could identify only 7.04 lakh SC people.

Owing to this, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao had written to Mr. Nagamohan Das seeking an extension of the survey in the city till July 15. The Social Justice Department had also sought the extension of the survey in Bengaluru.

Considering these requests, Mr. Nagamohan Das has extended the survey in the BBMP and Bengaluru Urban district till July 6. In a special drive over the past two weeks, BBMP officers have been visiting individual homes and pasting stickers on those houses covered under the survey.

The option for self-declaration by SC families online using the link https://schedulecastesurvey.karnataka.gov.in/selfdeclaration has been extended till July 6 across the State. “Many who have attempted to take the survey online seem to have no patience to fill out the full form of 42 questions. They fill in a few questions and log out. We appeal to those taking the survey online to fill out the full questionnaire,” retired judge H.N. Nagamohan Das told The Hindu.
