Former Trump aide Hogan Gidley said the reason President-elect Trump hasn’t picked a Treasury Secretary is because of an overwhelming interest in the position.
“There are a lot of people vying for that position. It’s a very significant post, as you know, very important to the incoming administration. The American people largely vote on the economy,” Gidley told Blake Burman during a Thursday appearance on “The Hill” on NewsNation.
He added that he declined to take the post but mentioned Trump is looking for a person he can “trust” who will be “loyal” to his values, ideals and vision for the incoming administration.
“It’s a long list of folks, I’ve been at Mar-a-Lago now for several days, I watched the jockeying that occurred,” Gidley stated.
“I think a lot of people want in that administration because they know the best days for America are yet to come who makes us more feared, loved and respected on the global stage, but also is so beloved by many in this country as having made their lives better,” Gidley continued. “They want to be a small part of that.”
Trump’s close advisors like Elon Musk have pushed for different candidates, including Howard Lutnick, while others, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), have advocated for Scott Bessent. The former president is expected to make an announcement revealing his choice in the coming days.
