Clarksburg Honors Long-Time Police Officer, Former Boxer with Tommy Thomas Recreation Center Naming

To commemorate the event, members of Thomas’ family, members of the community, elected officials, and others gathered for a ribbon cutting event.

This renaming was done to celebrate the life and contributions of the late Tommy Thomas, who was a long-time Clarksburg law enforcement officer and prior that a world-ranked heavyweight boxer.

In 1998, he established the Tommy Thomas Boxing Club, Inc. within the walls of the recreation center — a place that quickly became a second home for many young individuals seeking guidance, discipline, and hope. The city said his legacy will forever live on and inspire those who enter the Tommy Thomas Recreation Center.

The facility is located at 435 Duff Avenue in Clarksburg.
