Bluetooth 6.0 unlocks faster, secure tracking features

Bluetooth Core Specification version 6.0 has been officially released by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), ushering in a host of new capabilities aimed at improving both performance and security. Among the key upgrades is centimetre-level tracking accuracy, which promises to revolutionize how devices locate objects, offering a dramatic improvement over earlier versions. This enhanced precision is expected to boost item-tracking technologies, particularly in applications like digital keys and wearables.

Another standout feature is Bluetooth Channel Sounding, a security enhancement that ensures only authorized users can unlock connected devices or access specific locations. This layer of protection makes it harder for unauthorized users to infiltrate restricted areas, especially in commercial settings or smart homes.

Bluetooth 6.0 has also introduced decision-based advertising filtering, which helps devices determine whether to scan for related packets, thereby improving scanning efficiency. This functionality minimizes the time spent on secondary channels, optimizing resources for applications like real-time audio streaming, where quick responsiveness is essential.
