Jaecoo is another brand from the Chery Automotive group present at the GIMS Qatar 2023. Although the Jaecoo J7 and the Jaecoo J8 have been revealed globally, the brand still called their reveal at the Geneva International Motor Show, a World Premiere. The brand has not revealed many details about both cars except that they are ready to hit the Middle Eastern market next year.
If you are aware of the Chery Automotive, then you must be aware of the SUV called the Tiggo 7 Pro Max. After witnessing the Jaecoo J7, what we can tell is that the J7 is a more premium and luxurious version of Chery’s SUV. However, as the company internally operates under the same banner, there have been part and technology sharing.
This is evident when we speak about what is under the bonnet. The J7 uses the same 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 7-speed gearbox as the Tiggo 7 Pro Max. As a result, the power figures and performance remain the same at 197hp and 290Nm. The SUV does 0 to 100km/h in around 8 seconds, which is decent for an SUV this size.
Chery was also present at the motor show event showcasing the Tiggo 7 Pro Max and their line-up of plug-in hybrid cars. This way we could almost see the J7 and the 7 Pro Max next to each other to notice the differences in exterior design and interior looks. And we can report that the J7 is a more fancy SUV out of the two.
Moving to the bigger SUV, the Jaecoo J8 feels like a luxurious and premium adaptation of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max. The J8 is powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol GDI engine paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox featuring an AWD drivetrain. This powertrain produces 250hp and 390Nm and can do the 0 to 100km/h sprint in 7.3 seconds.
The large grille and 20-inch alloy wheels make the J8 look imposing and premium at the same time. On the inside, the full-size SUV features a dual-screen setup on the dashboard along with premium light-shade upholstery for an airy feel.
Both the Jaecoo J8 and the Jaecoo J7 will soon be launched in the Middle Eastern region. Once launched, these SUVs will join the highly competitive full-size and mid-size SUV market, respectively.
