Search underway for missing kayaker at Saguaro Lake

Richard Powers was last seen kayaking on Saguaro Lake at 5:45 a.m. Sunday morning. MCSO searched on Sunday afternoon with no success so far.

A search is underway for a missing kayaker at Saguaro Lake, according to authorities.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding 65-year-old Richard Powers. MCSO conducted a surface side scan and aviation search on Sunday afternoon, but with no success so far.

“Deputies will continue to check throughout the week until he [is] found,” MCSO told 12News.

Powers was last seen kayaking on the lake at 5:45 a.m. Sunday morning near Boat Ramp 1.

His personal belongings were found on the south side of the lake near Captains Nook.

When last seen, Powers was wearing a lime green hooded sweatshirt, black shorts, and flip flops. He has gray hair and green eyes.

The sheriff’s office would like to speak to anyone who may have seen Powers or have any information that might be helpful.
