The Colonial Steak House in Pine Bluff will close its doors after 51 years, marking the end an era.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. — It’s the end of an era in Jefferson County as an award-winning restaurant is set to permanently close its doors.

After 51 years in business, Colonial Steak House in Pine Bluff is calling it quits, but the memories will live on.

“If these walls could talk there is no telling what they might tell you,” Colonial Steak House Owner Allison Hall said.

Hall said it’s a place that is more than just a restaurant.

“I’d almost consider it my first home. On average, I probably spend about 60-70 hours a week here,” Hall said.

That’s one of the reasons she said the time is right to say goodbye.

“Obviously, the economy has a big part in it, but I think a lot of my decision came from things I was missing out on,” she said.

Hall said it wasn’t an easy decision, though.

“It’s bittersweet, because I am looking forward to something different. I don’t have that all lined out yet by any means. I’m stepping solely out on faith,” she explained.

Whatever comes next, she’ll remember this rich piece of history, where she spent most of her childhood and followed in her mother’s footsteps.

“She was the fourth owner, and she had been here for 25 years as a server, and decided she wasn’t quite ready to move on. She didn’t want to work for just anybody, and she’d been here for so long and felt an obligation to keep it going. And same with me,” she added.

Thankfully she’s staying in the area and will keep in touch with her customers who she calls family.

Customers like Thom Brown. You could find him and his wife at Colonial every Friday night. He has been going to the restaurant for 46 years.

“I was 17 the first time I went to the original Colonial Steakhouse on Fifth Street,” Brown said.

He said the restaurant holds a lot of special memories for his family.

“My daughters both had their wedding receptions there when I adopted them years ago, our very first celebration at the Colonial was there,” he added.

What he said he’ll miss the most is the people — and the food, of course!

The steak house officially closes Tuesday, July 15, and in the meantime, Hall said the phone is ringing non-stop for customers trying to make one last reservation.
