Long-Time Harrison County Schools Teacher, Coach, Susan Jane Hilton, Passes Away at the Age of 76

Susan Jane Hilton, 76, of Salem, WV, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

A proud graduate of Victory High School, Susan continued her education at Fairmont State College, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree.

She spent many years dedicated to the field of education, retiring as a teacher and coach with the Harrison County Board of Education. Susan’s impact was felt by countless students, particularly at both Salem and Liberty schools, where her passion for teaching and mentorship left a lasting legacy.

A longtime member of Adamston United Methodist Church until its closure, Susan found immense joy in socializing with her friends and family. She cherished her regular visits to Tammy’s Hair Salon, where the friendships and lively conversations were the highlight of her day.

Known for her kind heart and selflessness, Susan was always giving to others and made everyone around her feel valued and cared for.

Susan is survived by her brother, Thomas Ralph Hilton (Diantha Kaye) of Bridgeport; nieces and nephew Amanda Kaye Hilton, John Thomas Hilton (Carol), Patty Hilton, and Debbie Herrmann, along with several extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her brother, James David Hilton, and her nephew, Jimmy Dave Hilton.

A private interment will be held at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery, where Susan will be laid to rest next to her parents.
