Barbara Ann (Kimble) Hathaway, 87, went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 2, 2025, following a brief illness. A devoted daughter, wife, mother, Mammaw, and Gigi, she was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Charles; son, Scott; mother, Lillie; and father, John, in Heaven.

Born on December 18, 1937, Barbara grew up in Stumptown, WV, and was a 1955 graduate of Normantown High School. She married the love of her life, Charlie, on June 12, 1955.

She is survived by two children: Gregory Hathaway and wife, Teresa, of Weston, and Suzanne Simmons and husband, Daniel, of Cox’s Mills; seven grandchildren: Miranda Hawkins and husband, Jason, of Weston, Tara Zickefoose and husband, Dustin, of Buckhannon, Chelsey Hathaway and fiancé, Anthony Romeo, of Weston, Andrew Simmons and partner, Joshua Barnes, of Chicago, IL, Abigail Fryman and husband, Jonah, of Belpre, OH, Hannah Smith and husband, Nicholas, of Arnoldsburg, and Emily Jeffries and husband, Adam, of Morgantown; and her six treasured great-grandchildren: Sloane Smith, Josephine McCarthy, Prescott Fryman, Piper Zickefoose, Collin Hawkins, and Knox Fryman. She is also survived by a host of beloved friends.

Barbara had a 27-year career with the Lewis County Board of Education as a secretary for multiple schools, with the majority of her years spent at Lewis County High School until her retirement in 1998.

Barbara was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Weston where she sang in the choir, played piano, sometimes led Children’s Chats on Sunday mornings, and delighted in singing “Jesus Loves Me”. Barbara loved her church family and devoted herself to the church and its activities. She was a proud member of The Order of the Eastern Star, serving 50+ years in the Good Hope Chapter #109 and Weston Chapter #40.

Always active, Barbara found joy in being outdoors, tending to her garden and yard, and earnestly cared for her “home place” in Stumptown until her illness.

Beyond Barbara’s polished exterior was a kind heart and a strong, stubborn spirit. A true matriarch of her large family, she taught the importance of dressing well, but more importantly, that true class came from within. She will be remembered for her elegance, quiet strength, and endless and enduring love.

Special memories include her holiday gatherings for which she spent days prior preparing everyone’s favorite and requested foods. She never missed a special occasion – whether it was a card, a phone call, or her presence. She poured her love and energy into her family, and nothing brought her more happiness than time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the dedicated staff of WVU Hospice – specifically Hilary and Adam – for providing love, comfort, and dignity to Barbara and her family during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to WVU Medicine Home Health and Hospice at give.wvu.edu/campaign/home-health-and-hospice/c430756 or by check to the WVU Foundation, One Waterfront Place, 7th Floor, P.O. Box 1650, Morgantown WV 26507, noting the designation in the memo line.
