Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud spoke on the ongoing political developments in the State, on Friday (September 5, 2025). File
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud described MLC K Kavitha’s episode as a ‘drama’ by the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and its chief K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) family to divert public attention from the ongoing probe into the Kaleshwaram project.
Mr. Goud, who will be completing one year as the PCC president on Saturday (September 6, 2025), said the KCR family was known to mislead people and play on their sentiments for their own benefit. “Whatever disputes Kavitha and K.T. Rama Rao have were related to money and power and nothing to do with Telangana society,” he argued.
The PCC president stated that Ms. Kavitha exposed corruption in the Kaleshwaram project, revealing the names of MLA and former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and former MP J. Santosh Rao, which the Congress had been discussing for years. Her admission showcases how the State’s money was looted, he said.
On the possibility of Ms. Kavitha joining Congress, if ever she made any attempt, he said Congress was not open to such people. “However, without the approval of AICC, I won’t make any comments on that.”
On the probe into Kaleshwaram project by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Mr. Goud said, “Had the State agencies investigated, BRS and their supporters would have accused us of defaming them.” Though Congress has reservations about CBI, in the present circumstances, it was the only option and hoped that CBI would act impartially and take action against the corrupt.
Mr. Goud also acknowledged his positive rapport with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and said the Congress would go to the next elections under his leadership. “Revanth Reddy will continue as Chief Minister for the full term, and we will face the next election under his leadership. The future possibility of a BC leader becoming Chief Minister is only with Congress,” he said.
On the political developments, he said Khairatabad MLA D. Nagender may resign and contest again, but he does not expect him to lose membership. He also clarified there is some confusion over Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy’s comments on the party, while acknowledging that the Komatireddy brothers are known to speak frankly and openly on any issue.
He also noted that the “Meet the Ministers” programme in the State, initiated by him, received nationwide attention and he received appreciation from other Congress-ruled States. Mr. Goud also claimed that he turned down ministerial berth and clarified that he loves his community but was not obsessed with caste.
