David Jackson Griffith, 78, of Clarksburg passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the United Hospital Center.
He was born in Clarksburg on October 2, 1946, a son of the late Roy and Vandora Ashcraft Griffith.
Also surviving are one son, Brian Scott Griffith and his wife Linda of Clarksburg; three daughters, Tracy Lynn Valenti of Covington, KY, Kristy Dawn Scarlata and her husband Paul Anthony, II of Inwood, WV and Kelly Ann Weaver and her husband Tim of Lincoln, RI; 10 grandchildren, Madeline Anderson and her husband Mason, Abigail, Ella, Samuel and Jackson Griffith; Celina Valenti and her partner Nick Levo, Courtney and Justin Valenti, and Delaney and Casey Weaver; three great grandchildren, Evelyn and Carson Levo and Easton Anderson; and two sisters, Nancy Preston of Bridgeport and Joyce Ringer and her husband Rick of Illinois.
Mr. Griffith was a 1964 graduate of Washington Irving High School and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting at Fairmont State College. He was a United States Air Force veteran having served stateside during Vietnam.
David was an active member of his community. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and he served on numerous community and professional boards throughout his career.
David built his career at Union National Bank, starting as a CPA in the 70s where he eventually became Bank President. He remained in that role through several bank mergers including Bank One and Chase. He left that role to join Harrison County Bank in 1998 until he retired as President and CEO in 2008. David continued to serve on the Board of Directors until the present time.
David always supported his four children and 10 grandchildren in their various activities, most notably as a beloved longtime coach of the Stealey Swim Team in the 80s. Many will remember the image of Coach Dave coming down the big Stealey Pool hill in his business suit to coach practice on his lunch hour from the bank. He later came out of retirement to coach some of his grandkids in the newly formed Clarksburg Swim Team.
In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Griffith will be cremated.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm, where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 pm to conclude the gathering.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date with Father Casey Mahone as Celebrant.
