Area first responders rescued an individual whose ATV was involved in an accident that saw the vehicle end up 100 feet over an embankment Sunday morning.

Complicating the issue, along with the darkness, was that the accident took place in a thick wooden area. Despite the issues, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office along with personnel from the Marion County Rescue Squad, and the Valley made their way through the wooded section where the accident took place.

After contact was made with the male patient it was determined that a rope rescue would be required to extract the patient. The individual in question was found conscious and alert.

According to the Valley VFD the vehicle traveled down the embankment between 80 and 100 feet. The individual on the ATV was found 60 to 70 feet down the embankment.

As the staging area was set for removal, the individual was assessed by medics before being loaded into a rescue stokes basket. At that point, a pulley system was used to pull the individual up the embankment where the man in question was loaded into an ambulance and transported.

The injuries appeared to be non-life threatening, the VFD reported.
