Don’t miss 1st supermoon of 2025! Here’s what to know

ORLANDO, Fla. – Get ready, sky watchers! Monday night, Oct. 6, marks the arrival of 2025’s first supermoon.

This supermoon is especially rare because it’s the latest first supermoon in a calendar year since 2010.

A supermoon happens when the full moon coincides with its closest point to Earth in its orbit, known as perigee.

That means the moon appears 30% brighter and about 14% larger in the night sky compared to a typical full moon.

While the difference isn’t always dramatic to the naked eye, it’s still a beautiful sight and a great excuse to step outside and look up.

The moon will rise around sunset and will appear at its fullest around 11:45 p.m.
