The Mangaluru City Police, who have been campaigning vigorously against people driving inebriated, have used a clip from the superhit Kannada movie Su from So to buttress their campaign. Using the clip on their Facebook page, the police urge people not to drive under the influence of alcohol. In the clip, a drunk Raviyanna (Shanil Guru) comes out of a marriage party and attempts to ride his scooter.

As he applies the first gear, the scooter suddenly moves forward and Raviyanna, unable to control the vehicle, falls. When others ask him what happened, he tells them he just wanted to park the scooter on a side so as to not obstruct others. Another man is heard sniggering, “Idu tumba side ayta anta…” (Looks like it went a bit too much to the side). The police end the reel with the message, “If you drink and drive, the vehicle veers off the road too much. Don’t drink and drive, follow traffic rules.”

The Sagar City Municipal Council (CMC) in Shivamogga district, which had planned to take all elected members (31) on a study tour of Delhi and Haryana, cancelled the trip under public pressure. The purpose of the tour, as disclosed by the members, was to study solid waste management in some of the well-maintained cities in North India. This decision attracted criticism from the public. The term of the elected body ends on October 25, 2025, hardly two months away. The public questioned the necessity of conducting a study tour at the fag end of the tenure and argued there would be no time to implement the best practices witnessed in other urban localities in Sagar.

The estimated expenditure for the tour was ₹40 lakh. Knowing the public sentiment against the tour, the BJP members, who hold power in the council, decided against joining the trip. Similarly, the leader of the Congress in the CMC, Ganapati Mandagalale, announced that he would not join the trip. Finally, council president Mythri Patil on August 8 declared that the CMC would not take the members for the trip. The amount meant for the trip would be utilised for development works in the city, she announced.

The proposed amusement park at KRS in Mandya district has drawn flak from former Minister B.K. Chandrashekar. In a letter to Tourism and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil, the Congress leader said that the proposed park would harm the environment around the dam.

The government is expected to acquire 500 acres for the proposed park which is not far away from the dam, and it will lead to the mushrooming of hotels and other business establishments and will become a dumping yard for plastic bags and food waste, he said. Mr. Chandrashekar, who hails from the region, said that the proposed park would adversely affect the historic town of Srirangapatna and appealed to the government to drop the project in the interest of the public and to safeguard the environment.
