George H. Hill, Jr., 88, of Bridgeport, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, in the United Hospital Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bridgeport on June 5, 1937, a son of the late George H. Hill, Sr. and Edith E. (Fletcher) Hill.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Catherine Rose “Doll” (Carvelli) Hill, on March 15, 2015.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna C. Folio; and a brother John Hill.
George was a very hardworking provider for his family. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 132, as a mechanic all while holding a second job at Fancher’s Fresh Meats for many years. After retirement from IUOE, he worked at North Central Beverage Distributors for several years. Many people will remember George for his pony and wagon rides in the local area. He very much enjoyed participating in the Bridgeport Christmas Parades with his wagon and horses. He was always willing and able to help family and friends with anything they needed. He particularly enjoyed working on cars and trucks in his garage. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
Most of all, George loved his children and grandchildren. He was very active in their lives. They all knew he would show up for them.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Thursday from 1 – 7 p.m., where the Vigil Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 317 E. Main Street, Bridgeport, at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, with Very Rev. Walt Jagela, V.F., as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
