Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s relatives allegedly attacked a government officer in Patna’s Rupaspur. Arvind Kumar Singh, who is an executive officer posted in Gaya, suffered a critical head injury after he was attacked with a rod by the sons of the veteran leader’s nephew, police said.
Tanuj Yadav and his brother Nayan Yadav are the sons of Nagendra Yadav, who is the nephew of Lalu Prasad. The accused were allegedly in an inebriated state, and hit the officer with a rod. He was rushed to Delhi after he was referred by a private hospital in Patna.
The incident took place on the night of January 16 and an FIR was registered the next day. According to a formal complaint by the Arvind Kumar Singh’s brother Vijay Kumar Singh, 15 to 20 people forced their vehicle to stop on Gola Road in Patna. When they got down, they were attacked and their car key was snatched, the complaint said.
The complaint further stated that Arvind suffered serious injuries on his back, head and eyes. The complainant alleged that all of them were drunk, flouting the liquor ban in the state.
Patna Police are searching for the accused and arrested one identified as Ranjan Yadav. The main accused, Tanuj and Nayan, are still on the run. Vijay said Tarun, while attacking his brother was constantly screaming and threatening that he was Lalu Yadav’s grandson.
State BJP president Samrat Chaudhary hit out at the RJD and said: “Now, the people of Lalu’s family have resorted to hooliganism. The entire government is being run by hooligans. What used to happen earlier under ‘jungle raj’ is happening today.”
Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, who is the Lalu’s younger son, said: “Be it our family member or relative, action will be taken. I have called and asked to investigate and take action. As soon as I got the information, I spoke to the officer and asked for action. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.”
Calling the incident a “return to jungle raj”, senior BJP leader Amit Malviya said in a post on X: “In a return to #JungleRaj in Bihar, Tanuj Yadav, a member of Lalu Prasad’s family, beat up Arvind Kumar Singh, an executive officer working with the state government. The incident happened in Patna. The officer has been referred to Delhi for treatment.”
