According to Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, more than 2 million individuals, including 40,000 Emiratis, have already enrolled in the UAE's mandatory unemployment insurance scheme. This scheme serves as a reliable safety net for workers facing job loss. To avoid penalties, eligible workers must enroll by the upcoming deadline of June 30.

 

Other Significant Labour Market Policies

Alongside the unemployment insurance scheme, the UAE has implemented two other key initiatives to promote stability and flexibility in the labor market. The worker protection insurance system offers coverage for contingencies like company insolvency, payment issues, and repatriation expenses. The wage protection system ensures that employees receive their salaries in a timely and secure manner.

 

Emiratisation on the Rise

The first quarter of 2023 witnessed an encouraging 11% increase in the employment of Emiratis within the private sector, reaching a total of over 66,000 individuals. This positive trend highlights the success of Emiratisation efforts. Moreover, there has been a 13% rise in the number of companies hiring UAE nationals.
