The UAE has announced the official Eid Al Adha holidays for federal ministries and entities, offering residents a four-day break to celebrate the Islamic festival. Depending on the sighting of the Moon, which determines the start and end of Islamic months, the break is expected to extend to a six-day weekend.

According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR), the holiday break will be from Dhul Hijjah 9 to 12 in the Islamic Hijri calendar. Dhul Hijjah 9 is Arafat Day, the holiest day in Islam, followed by three days to mark Eid Al Adha, also known as the festival of sacrifice.

The corresponding Gregorian calendar dates will be confirmed on June 18, when officials attempt to spot the crescent moon marking the beginning of the Islamic month. Based on astronomical calculations, Arafat Day is expected to fall on June 27, with Eid Al Adha following on June 28. Therefore, the anticipated break will likely span from Tuesday, June 27, to Friday, June 30, including the usual Saturday-Sunday weekend, resulting in a six-day break—the longest official holiday of the year

After the previous weekend, residents will only need to work on Monday, June 26, before enjoying the remainder of the week off. Some individuals are opting to take Monday off as well, extending their break to nine days. Employees are scheduled to return to work on Monday, July 3.

This holiday period conveniently precedes the two-month summer break in the UAE, providing residents with additional vacation options. Travel experts have observed that many UAE residents are planning two separate breaks this year, combining a short one for Eid Al Adha with a longer vacation in July or August during the summer holidays.
