New McLaren W1 Revealed — The Most Powerful McLaren Ever Produced!
McLaren revealed the new W1 hybrid supercar powered by a V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain producing over 1,258hp.

McLaren has revealed the long-awaited successor to the McLaren P1. According to the brand, the new McLaren W1 is regarded by the manufacturer as the genuine heir to the hybrid hypercar legacy, Despite the launch of the Senna and the Speedtail

The W1 promises to shatter all of McLaren’s records for power and performance. The new supercar laps quicker than the super agile Senna and is faster than the Speedtail. Here is everything you need to know about the new McLaren W1.

The McLaren W1 is powered by a 4.0-litre flat-plane-crank twin-turbo V8 engine developed in collaboration with Ricardo. This engine features direct and port fuel injection, delivering the highest output per litre in McLaren’s history.

Complementing the V8 is an e-module radial flux electric motor, which enhances performance and serves multiple functions, including providing reverse gear, enabling silent starts, and offering up to 2km of electric-only range from a 1.384kWh battery.

Different driving modes offer varying electric assistance levels, including a Sprint mode for maximum e-power and a Boost setting for instant full power. Four-wheel drive was deemed unnecessary due to the exceptional grip from its aerodynamic package and suspension, which are informed by McLaren’s Formula 1 expertise.

Following the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the W1 is only the second road car to feature true ground-effect aerodynamics, thanks to its innovative underbody design. The foundation of the W1’s aerodynamic package is the central Aerocell carbon fibre monocoque, which integrates the two seats and allows for a shorter wheelbase. Unique anhedral doors mark a first for McLaren, and a roof scoop reminiscent of the F1 and P1 directs airflow to the rear.

It boasts active front and rear wings, including a signature Active Long Tail rear wing that extends 300 mm backwards instead of upward, enhancing downforce without increasing drag. In road mode, the active front wing raises, while the Active Long Tail rear wing retracts seamlessly into the body, optimizing performance for everyday driving.

This advanced aerodynamic function is operational in track mode. In its extreme Race setting, the W1 generates 350 kg of front downforce and 650 kg at the rear, totalling 1,000 kg. The new aero on the W1 has allowed it to lap McLaren’s Nardò handling circuit three seconds faster than the Senna.

The new McLaren Race Active Chassis Control III features a race-bred double-wishbone suspension designed to transition between street and track use. Drivers can choose from Comfort, Sport, Race, and Race+ modes. In Comfort mode, the focus is on achieving a smooth ride, while Race and Race+ modes enhance stability, allowing the aerodynamic package to reach its full potential on the track.

Constructed with lightweight materials like titanium and utilizing 3D printing for suspension components, the W1 prioritizes weight savings. The ride height adjusts according to the selected mode. Innovative pushrods, another McLaren first, work with inboard dampers at the front to optimize airflow, while outboard springs and dampers are utilized at the rear.

The new supercar retains hydraulic steering and features Carbon Ceramic Racing+ brake discs, enhanced with an additional ceramic layer for improved stopping power. The W1 can go from 100 kph to a complete stop in just 29 meters and from 200 to 0 kph in 100 meters. Pirelli has developed bespoke tyres, including the road-legal P Zero Trofeo RS among other options.

Visually, the W1 is a masterpiece of engineering, characterised by its heavily sculpted form and extensive use of carbon fibre. The aerodynamic blade at the front enhances its aggressive stance, while the side profile is influenced by Formula 1 design principles, featuring pronounced air intakes and a sleek silhouette.

The headlights are designed with an aerodynamic edge, seamlessly integrated into the bodywork. The design includes visible carbon fibre aerodynamic structures and exposed suspension components.

The interior of the W1 is tailored for both luxury and functionality. It boasts an innovative cabin with McLaren’s Aerocell carbon fibre monocoque construction, offering exceptional support and comfort. The seating is fully upholstered, and the driving position is optimised for an immersive driving experience.

The W1 provides thoughtful storage options, including a sliding cup holder and compartments behind the armrest. A luggage shelf behind the seats can accommodate up to 117 litres of storage, suitable for two-weekend bags or helmets.

Each W1 comes with a comprehensive standard warranty of 4 years/unlimited km for the vehicle and 6 years/75,000 km for the high-voltage battery. This includes a four-year service plan, enhancing the ownership experience.

According to McLaren, all 399 examples of the W1 have been allocated to owners, making this supercar even more exclusive. Once launched, the W1 is expected to be priced at around AED 10 million. The new McLaren W1 will primarily go up against the Lamborghini Temarario, and the upcoming rivals from Ferrari (F250) and Porsche (Mission X)
