MG is gearing up to launch its most powerful production car, the Cyberster. Ahead of its launch, MG has showcased the Cyberster at the 2023 Chengdu Motor Show and has revealed some important specs of the electric two-seater sports car.
The Cyberster has made many public appearances since its unveiling earlier this year. However, most times we got to see and know only a few minute details about the car. This time around, the brand has revealed that the most powerful version of the sports car will feature a dual electric motor setup giving it AWD capabilities. The electric motor present on each axle together will produce 536hp and 725Nm of peak torque. The sports car can sprint from 0 to 100kmph in 3.2 seconds, which is impressive. Powering the motors is a 77kWh battery pack.
MG will also offer a tuned-down version of the Cyberster with a single electric motor. This version will have its electric motor on the rear axle connected to a smaller 64kWh battery pack producing around 340hp. However, this version could prove to be more fun than the AWD variant as the power goes to the rear wheels and with the instant torque from electric motors — slideways action. This would also answer the question if the Cyberster could be the green vehicle version of the Mazda Miata MX-5.
The MG Cyberster range is yet to be known clearly. For now, according to CLTC (China Light-duty vehicle Test Cycle), the AWD variant features a maximum driving range of 580km, while the RWD variant features a 520km range. The WLTP range of the car could be lower.
The Cyberster features a modern and contemporary design with smooth and contoured body panels for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. In some angles, it resembles the iconic German two-seater sports car. With its scissor doors and fabric soft top it will surely turn heads on the road. MG could offer several alloy wheel options including 19-inch and 20-inch units.
Some of the interiors of the MG Cyberster were teased earlier. The cabin of the two-seater sports car features a large curved screen reserved for the instrument cluster and the infotainment. The centre console also seems to have a display that could feature climate controls. The interiors are decked in luxurious Nappa leather. The steering wheel could be offered as a two-spoke unit or a yoke.
MG will launch the Cyberster in China by the end of this year. The two-seater sports car will make its way into the European and the US markets by early 2024. In the UAE, the Cyberster could be launched in the second half of 2024 and could carry a starting price tag of around AED 255,000.
