Launched in January 2024, the Jetour T2 immediately garnered attention and became the most successful Chinese SUV in the UAE. While the Jetour marque does have a few other capable and feature-packed SUVs in its lineup, none of them could replicate the success of the Jetour T2. Now though, there is a new contender in town — the Jetour T1.
The Jetour T1 first debuted in October 2024 as the Shanhai T1 in the Chinese market and has since then made its way to a few international markets. Jetour UAE and The Elite Cars recently showcased the Jetour T1 at an event in Dubai, with an imminent launch around the corner. In this Jetour T2 vs Jetour T1 comparison article, we find out if the T1 is better than the T2, and which SUV is the better choice for you.
Bookings for the Jetour T2 began on 29 January 2024 with deliveries commencing shortly after. Bookings for the Jetour T1 began on 16 December while deliveries are expected to begin in April 2025. Here’s a list of the top Chinese SUVs launching in 2025.
The numbers make it quite clear that the Jetour T2 is 79mm longer, 39mm wider, and 35mm taller than the Jetour T1. In addition, the 20mm of extra ground clearance is bound to make it far superior off the road.
However, comparing the wheelbase of both SUVs gives us a surprising result — the Jetour T1, despite being 79mm shorter than the T2, has a 10mm longer wheelbase. This might make a positive difference in space for passengers in the second row.
Both SUVs exhibit a rugged, boxy design reminiscent of traditional off-road vehicles. The T2 showcases pronounced fenders, skid plates, and neon-colored accents on elements like roof rails and tow hooks, enhancing its adventurous appeal.
The T1 on the other hand features square-shaped headlights with four-point LED DRLs and 19-inch petal-shaped alloy wheels. While the T2 has a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, the T1 features a cleaner and more urban rear-end with compact tail lamps.
Inside, both models are equipped with a 15.6-inch infotainment display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, ensuring responsive performance. The T2 features a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system, providing a more luxurious and comfortable cabin experience.
The T1 offers a flat-bottom steering wheel, 50W wireless charging, ventilated seats, and a sporty interior catering to modern connectivity needs.
Both the Jetour T2 and the Jetour T1 are powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-4 engine producing 252hp and 390Nm. Both SUVs also feature an advanced AWD system. However, the differences begin at the gearbox — a 7-speed DCT in the Jetour T2 and an 8-speed AT in the T1.
A 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid engine is expected to join the lineup towards the end of 2025. However, this drivetrain will cost a bit more and is catered more toward those seeking fuel efficiency over outright performance. This drivetrain is expected to offer a combined range of up to 1,300km.
If off-road ability is your prime requirement, the Jetour T2 is more capable than the T1. The T2 offers an 11-degree improvement in approach angle, a 20mm increase in ground clearance, and a 100mm increase in water wading capacity over the T1. Check out our review of the Jetour T2 to know more about its off-road capabilities.
While the Jetour T1 does feature AWD, it is geared more towards urban mobility than off-road ability. This is an SUV designed for those who want to have a compact and efficient drive on the road while being able to soft-road whenever needed.
Both models come equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking, ensuring a high level of safety for occupants.
In summary, the Jetour T1 is a compact SUV ideal for urban dwellers seeking a stylish and efficient vehicle. The Jetour T2, being larger and equipped with advanced off-road capabilities, caters to those who desire a more rugged SUV for adventurous pursuits. The price difference of just AED 10,000 might make it a little complicated for buyers to choose between the two.
However, buyers should consider their specific needs, and preferences when choosing between these two models. The Jetour T1 does everything well and gets the same equipment as the more expensive Jetour T2. However, if you want off-road ability, the Jetour T2 should be your pick.
The Jetour T2 is larger, has better off-road capabilities, and comes with more premium features compared to the Jetour T1, which is geared more towards urban driving.
The Jetour T1 is priced at AED 129,000 (exclusive of VAT) in the UAE.
The Jetour T1 measures 4,706mm in length, 1,967mm in width, and 1,845mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,810mm. This makes it slightly smaller than the Jetour T2.
The Jetour T2 is better suited for off-roading with its higher ground clearance, superior approach and departure angles, and greater water-wading depth.
