In this week’s edition of DubiCars Exotic Car Of The Week, we have become humble and chosen a small plucky offroader from Japan. Well, not really. It is small and offroader alright, but it gets the German-tuning company Brabus’ treatment. We are talking about the Suzuki Jimny with Brabus Kit. In this article, we tell you why the Jimny Brabus is our pick of the week.
The Suzuki Jimny is an iconic off-road SUV that is sold all over the world. While many offroaders are big and heavy with a large engine under the bonnet, the Japanese took a different approach with the Jimny. The SUV is lightweight and has just a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine under the bonnet. The exotic SUV with the Brabus kit adds a lot of oomph. Sounds interesting? Well, let us start with the history of Suzuki Jimny first.
The original Jimny, called the LJ10, began in 1970 with a compact 360cc two-stroke engine. Its small size and off-road ability made it popular for light off-roading and leisure use.
The second version, named SJ-Series, arrived in 1981 with a modern look and better engines. It gained fame as a cost-effective off-road vehicle and received updates over the years.
The third iteration came in 1998, featuring a more modern rounded design while maintaining its off-road capability. Its unique appearance and versatility attracted attention.
The fourth version debuted in 2018, reviving the boxy look of the original. It remained practical for city and outdoor use, being compact and agile. In 2023, the Jimny in India was launched with 5 doors adding to the practicality of the small SUV.
Throughout its history, the Suzuki Jimny has garnered a dedicated following due to its simple and rugged design, affordable pricing, and capable off-road performance. Its small size makes it suitable for navigating tight spaces, and its lightweight construction contributes to its agility off-road.
Brabus is a German company specializing in customizing and tuning luxury vehicles, particularly from Mercedes-Benz. Founded in 1977, its name is a combination of the co-founders’ surnames ‘Klaus Brackman’ and ‘Bodo Buschmann’. Renowned for pushing the boundaries of performance and luxury, Brabus offers upgrades like engine enhancements, suspension modifications, and cosmetic changes, alongside interior and exterior customization options. Catering to a niche market of automotive enthusiasts, Brabus provides personalized and standout vehicles, redefining luxury car experiences.
Now that we know what Jimny is and what wonders can Brabus do to the offroader, let us start by putting both of them together. For starters, the Brabus kit is only cosmetic (almost) and does not give any extra oomph under the bonnet. But those looks are enough to choose the Jimny Brabus as your next offroad SUV.
Up Front, the Jimny Brabus kit adds a large new Brabus logo, a Pan-America vertical-slat grille, a beefed-up front bumper, and new Xenon headlamps. The turn-signal indicators now sit on top of a new fender and lastly, there are two LED lightbars that are placed on the rooftop.
On the side, the front fender gets a body-coloured extension and 18-inch black alloy wheels for beefier looks. Wing mirrors get carbon-fibre treatment and there is a powered-retractable side step too. But the one that will catch your eye is the dual-tip side exhausts that make the car sound sweet.
Moving to the rear, the Jimny Brabus gets new LED tail lamps placed inside the new bumper, Brabus spare wheel cover, and a rear spoiler. And not to forget the Brabus badging replacing the Jimny moniker on the rear door. These are all the updates you get when you buy a Jimny fitted with a Brabus kit.
There are no changes made to the interiors of the modified SUV. However, the Jimny comes with a decent equipment list that includes:
As mentioned earlier, there are no changes made under the hood by the addition of the Brabus kit, except for the side exhausts that can add a slight boost in performance. The engine and gearbox though remain the same. The Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre inline-4 cylinder petrol engine paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic.
The Jimny also comes equipped with Suzuki’s AllGrip 4WD system with brake locking differentials and a low-ratio gearbox. Despite having just 101hp, the lightweight construction and strong hardware give the Jimny extreme off-road abilities. There is not a terrain that the plucky offroader cannot go through.
There is a strong off-road culture in the UAE and the Suzuki Jimny is part of this huge following. The Brabus kit makes the Jimny more desirable than ever. There are several examples of the Jimny with Brabus kit on sale in the UAE. But there is one Jimny with Brabus Kit in the lovely Kinetic Yellow listed on DubiCars by Prestige Motors for AED 135,000.
