2024 Toyota CH-R Revealed: Funky Japanese Crossover Gets More Jazz & A New PHEV Powertrain
The 2024 Toyota CH-R has been revealed ahead of its launch. It features funky styling, modern interior and a hybrid powertrain system.

The 2024 Toyota CH-R has been revealed ahead of its launch. The funky little Japanese crossover has been revamped for the 2024 model year and this time will be made available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain option.

The Toyota CH-R is a unique vehicle that caters to a niche audience who place design & styling over all else. The crossover was first introduced in 2016 and sold in several significant markets across the world. Europe is the primary market for the Toyota CH-R and hundreds of thousands of units are sold each year in the continent. Now, Toyota has unveiled the second-generation CH-R.

The new Toyota CH-R comes with a funkier design and this one is slightly larger than the outgoing model. It features unique design lines all over and is one of the most fashionable cars around. The C-shaped LED headlamps and DRLs look fantastic and so does the paneling above the grille up front.

The new Toyota CH-R is available in dual-tone colour options that further accentuate the styling. It now rides on larger and more stylish 20-inch dual-tone wheels. At the rear, the new CH-R continues with a sharp drop and several sharp edges. On the whole, the 2024 Toyota CH-R is sure to make a style statement for you.

The Toyota CH-R is currently available in multiple engine options including a few petrol engines, a hybrid option, and even a flex-fuel version. For the 2024 model, Toyota has made a few changes. The CH-R will no longer be available with a petrol-only powertrain option. The flex-fuel variant too is discontinued.

The Toyota CH-R will from now on be exclusively available in three hybrid variants including an all-wheel-drive variant for the very first time. The base variant is powered by a 1.8-litre inline-4 petrol engine and an electric motor which gives out a combined power output of 140hp.

The mid-spec variant is powered by a 2.0-litre inline-4 engine and an electric motor which gives it a combined output figure of 198hp. While the standard model is front wheel-driven, AWD is optional.

Then comes the interesting variant, which is the PHEV. This is a new introduction to the CH-R and it is powered by a 2.0-litre inline-4 engine combined with an electric motor on the rear axle. This setup has a combined power output of 224hp and the electric motor can drive the rear axles whenever necessary, thereby giving the crossover additional traction whenever necessary.

The PHEV boasts an electric-only range of around 66 kilometres and the new CH-R also comes with Geo-Fencing technology that automatically switches to EV mode whenever the car enters a low-emission zone.

For a car that’s so stylish on the outside, the interior is rather subtle. However, it is modern and well-appointed with high-quality materials. Entry-level models are equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen while the higher trim levels come with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. The higher trims also come with a head-up display.

Other features include 64-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic roof, and high fidelity JBL sound system. It also gets a digital instrument cluster, black upholstery, and seats with red accents.

The 2024 Toyota CH-R is expected to arrive in the UAE later this year. Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet. However, prices for the current-gen CH-R start at around AED 92,900, and the new CH-R is expected to be priced with just a slight increase over that price point.
